Sustainable leadership for sustainability leaders.

Burnout, sustainability, and digital detoxes. I had a great conversation on the Real Job Talk podcast!

My first-ever podcast appearance! What a treat it was to sit down with Liz Bronson and Kathleen Nelson Troyer for their latest episode of Real Job Talk.

I told the story of my path to coaching: 12 years in journalism… burnout… a decade in corporate communications… worse burnout… mid-career reboot… launch my coaching business!

We talked about the irony that I spent three years as a director on Apple’s corporate sustainability team, but somehow forgot to take care of my human sustainability.

We talked about the importance of stillness and quiet in our lives, to process all the information that comes at us through the day and turn it into our own original thoughts.

We talked about the digital detox program I tried in March, inspired by Cal Newport’s book Digital Minimalism, and how we can bring both attention and intention to our work.

And we laughed a lot, too. I tried to throw in a joke every time it felt like we were taking ourselves too seriously.

I hope you enjoy the conversation on the link above, or through Real Job Talk on Apple Podcasts. I’d love to hear what resonated with you, and any other ideas you have about how to stay fresh and energized to pursue what you love.
